Floods can be described as overflow in a water body and resulting in submerged land. This means that such land, which is covered by water, is normally out of the territory of the water body. Also, it would be because of a lake or river, which may not be able to hold large volume of water. The limit or boundary gets broken; resulting is escape of large amount of water in almost every direction.
Sometimes, the boundaries of the water body may get submerged to a smaller amount due to more rain than known. But, this may not be flood. A significant flood is when the water poses danger to life. It would enter residential areas, or nearby forests, submerge whatever may be in the way and keep on expanding, covering larger distance. Floods normally result in damaging hoses, inhabited area, crops as well as other forms of lives too.
The causes of floods can be many. To begin with, rapid snow melting can result in such disaster and exceed the water in rivers and lakes more than its capacity. Another reason may be because of sea tidal surges. The cause would be storms, typically the cyclones. One more reason for flood can be breakage in a dam. It may be because of volcanic eruption or earthquake. The effects can be severe. To begin with, life is absolutely disturbed and people relocate from one place to another. In sudden cases, emergency is declared and rescue operations become a part of the entire incident in order to save lives of those who are stuck in flood zone or for supplying food, clothes, shelter, water etc.
